May 21st, 2008

Another one here, one of my favs from the trip so far.

One more tigress…

April 27th, 2008

This wonderful lass was weeks away from giving birth and I was very fortunate to observe her from a distance at this rather picturesque stream. Hope you enjoy,

Rich.

Back from India

April 25th, 2008

Had a great trip, decided to leave the raw processing till I got home but here’s one I’ve done…

Huge thanks to Andy, Shailin, Rhea and everyone else I had the pleasure of meeting, go tug boats!!!!!

India, Tigers!!

April 11th, 2008

Packing for photography is always stressful but it’s all done now! phwew. The Kata HB-205 just about swallowed it all which is amazing considering it fits within the hand baggage restrictions.

Many thanks for your emails, hopefully I’ll come back with something worthwhile! I doubt I’ll have the internet (or the time to process any images) whilst I’m there but you never know!

See you all when I return!

Rich.

Lightroom users: READ!

March 17th, 2008

A heads up…

The other day Adobe released a point update to lightroom. Version 1.4

The have since retracted the update as it can accidentally re-write the timestamp in your raw files!

Oops, this is a biggy actually.  They are advising you switch back to version 1.3.1 for now…

Web view D3 review correction

March 6th, 2008

Regarding the web/html version of the D3 review I posted recently…

The owl eye close up images were the wrong way round, oops! The pdf was correct though.

Sorry for the mix up, all corrected now.

Richard: The human pincushion!

March 5th, 2008

I’ve had a fair few emails about my upcomming trip to India to photograph the tigers and the answer is 8!

All jabs done now, 8 in total!

Now it’s just malaria tablets to arrange…

Backlit squirrel

One more to see the light of day.

Southport: Squirrels and pheasants

February 26th, 2008

Back from southport/Manchester and Focus in Birmingham minus one phone, thanks to the ‘kind soul’ that relieved me of it enroute to Manchester at the services on the M62! >:|

Fruitful trip, here are the first two to see the light of day, hope you enjoy!

The D3 performed not unlike Metallica live; flawlessly.

Just to note, there is no stupid photoshop trickery going on, just the usual raw processing tweaks. The pheasant really emitted those colours when the light hit him just right. Lovely!

My Lightroom wants list….

February 16th, 2008

There has been a lot of talk going around mentioning what new features users would like to see in the next version of Lightroom.
As an early adopter and big fan of Lightroom, I too have a few thoughts on what I’d like.
Below are my main hopes for the next version. There are many other niggles that I would like to see added/improved but the following are changes that would improve my workflow, speed and stress levels..

1. Copyright watermark customisation
This is vital in my opinion. The current options are non existent. On or off is all you get. I need to be able to move it and set it’s size, opacity and font. Maybe even a image instead of text.

2. More coloured labels.

I know we have label sets, but I’d like to have as many as I want to create and not have to switch sets all the time.

3. Noise reduction masks
Less of a problem now I am in D3 land granted, but I often have to jump to Photoshop to paint in the noise reduction where it’s needed most and hold back where there is fine detail. This is usually the case if I have shot for diffuse backgrounds.
4. Custom develop “booster” options at export.
Whenever I upload images to the site, I resize them and this usually means a little extra sharpening and saturation is needed. The ability to add some extra processing on top of what you have already done have would be spiffy!
5. Stack outlines.
A little more obvious indication of stacks in the library and filmstrip views. The current double lines at either end are ok, but a small glowing outline encompassing the stack would be better.
6. Proper dual screen support.
Yes I can resize Lightroom to stretch across both but it’s not the same.

7. Floating develop panels

In the 3D software I use at work (Softimage and Maya), you have the ability to tear out panels from the menus and have them as a floating window. Come to think of it, you can do this in Word too. This would work well with the dual screen support.
There is more I’d like but I don’t want to be greedy ☺

Until next time folks!
Rich.
